Meet the Team: "Bloom"

The Idea:
Our idea is an AD that illustrates the natural ingredients that create a perfume. Some keywords that describe our product are, fresh, natural, tasty, and colorful. We want the viewer to be able to connect their senses of smell and taste. Our perfumes name is Bloom.
Ad Inspirations:
We took a great deal of inspiration from these two ads when developing our idea.
Hailey found this ad which we took a lot of inspiration from, it's where we got the idea of having our product be perfume and we were also inspired by the orb-like sparkles going throughout the ad.
I found this commercial in which I really liked the effect of the beads floating through the air and traveling back to the little girl to form the necklaces. This is where we developed the idea to have the ingredients floating through the air and into the bottle to show what makes the perfume.
Storyboard:
This is the storyboard that Hailey developed after we discussed several options we decided that this was the direction we were going to head in. I drew the final color version of the storyboard.
Our ad starts with a split screen, on one side there is the perfume bottle on a podium, and on the other side, there is an environmental scene showing the environment where the ingredients are sourced from. The ingredients start floating in the air swirling around the bottle. In shot two the magical ingredients begin to enter the bottle through the top. Our third and final shot is a close-up of the perfume spritzing the air.

3D Previs:
Zach created a proxy 3D model of our perfume bottle and Hao Xiang gave it some textures and set it into an environment to display a better idea of what some of our shots might look like. Hailey created the cinnamon and star anise models and textures as well.

Lighting References:
We want to utilize the glass of the perfume bottle to create really pretty caustic shadows for aesthetics.

Studio Lighting Guide:
Hao Xiang found this guide for lighting a perfume bottle for a commercial that we can use for reference.
Ingredients Reference:
We took inspiration for our ingredient list from the ingredients used in Le Labo perfumes. These are a few of the combinations we liked the best.

These are all of the ingredients we chose to feature in our perfume along with our color palette, we are also using roses and or dahlias. We wanted to use bright colors to make our perfume feel really bright and happy. We are going to be using particle simulations to make our ingredients float through the air.

Flower Effect Reference:
For one of our effects, we want to have the flower ingredients that are floating through the air blooming and then closing as it gets closer to the bottle. To do this we plan on utilizing the phyllotaxic pattern in Houdini.

Spraying Reference:
These are references for shot 3's spraying effect we plan on using particle simulations in Houdini to complete this effect.

Ingredient Flow Reference:
These are references we found for how the ingredients will flow along with the magical sparkly things.
Live Footage Reference:
Footage that Hailey found for Shot 1's Split Screen. Still looking for the final footage.
Bottle Reference:
These are references that Zach found for the perfume bottle model. We decided we will be aiming toward the top three bottles
