On Day 1 of class, we had to bring in something interesting to show to the class. I chose to bring in a fossil I found at the Heldenburg Escapement in upstate New york.
After a lot of research, I was able to determine what a couple of the fossils were. There were a couple of different types of Brachiopods, Crinoids, and another fossil that is often referred to as the devil's toenail.
Brachiopods Crinoids
Spinning off the idea of a devil's toenail I thought about what it would look like if the devil was clipping his toenails. I thought to myself, fossils are made through rock heating near the center of the earth. So the devil could clip his toenails into a small pool of lava to dispose of them and then 100 million or so years later I am then able to find this piece of fossil.

To develop on this idea of the devil clipping his toenails into a small pool of lava, I thought to myself what if when the devil clips his toenails into this pool of lava the volcano to which it is attached explodes and that is what begins the extinction of the dinosaurs.
This is a small storyboard I created showing how the devil kills the dinosaurs by clipping his toenails into a volcanic hole
After creating this variation I thought to myself well, what if this never happened and there were dinosaurs still on earth, and what if they were our pets? What would the world be like?
To show this, I drew a woman taking her pet dino to the dino park, a dog park, as if dinosaurs were still alive.

Other variations that I think could be made off of this idea are...
Humans using dinos for profit as they do other animals (ex: pulling carriages or for riding, for milk, or for eggs)
Zoos full of Dinos (aka Jurassic park)
Women carrying small dinos in their purses like purse dogs

While thinking about how dinosaurs are now extinct and we find fossils of artifacts showing past life I thought about animals now extinct that were once alive only a couple of years ago or animals that are seriously endangered.
Humans are significantly impacting the earth and causing the extinction of many of these animals through the destruction of their habitats and through the excessive garbage being put into the ocean. Fast Forward 200 years from now how different will the world look and what will still be on earth? Would there be animals anymore and would there even be humans anymore?
For this variation, I began to think more seriously about what could be a possibility for my senior project. Thinking about what the world will look like in the future if everything is extinct.
If parts of the world are already filled with trash much like this...
what will it look like in the future?
